The future of downtown Bethesda’s health-focused restaurant True Food Kitchen seems to be in question as the space it occupies appears available for lease.

True Food Kitchen, which opened at 7100 Wisconsin Ave. in 2017, is on the ground floor of the Solaire Bethesda apartment complex. The eatery, which is part of a national chain, boasts a spacious interior dining room and an outdoor dining patio. As of Wednesday, Bethesda real estate agency Willard Retail has listed the 6,500-square-foot restaurant space as available for lease. LoopNet, a commercial real estate website, also lists the restaurant space as available. Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer initially reported that the True Food Kitchen space was up for lease.

With the property management seeking a new tenant, the future of True Food Kitchen and whether it will remain in Bethesda is now in question.

A manager at the restaurant told Bethesda Today on Monday afternoon that while she had heard about closing rumors from patrons, she was not able to say whether the eatery would close. She directed questions to Christopher Settimo, the restaurant area director.

Settimo did not respond to Bethesda Today’s request for comment Monday. However, True Food Kitchen’s public relations team did respond to the inquiry, noting it was unable to comment on real estate or lease matters.

“We remain focused on serving our guests,” the PR team said in a Tuesday email.

When asked to comment on the possibility of a closure, the unnamed public relations representative again said they were “not in a position” to comment on real estate matters.

“That’s really all I can share,” the email said.

Leasing agents for the property did not immediately respond Tuesday to Bethesda Today’s email and phone call requests for comment.

Nothing on True Food Kitchen’s website indicates the restaurant plans to close. Reservations for Father’s Day on June 19 are still available on OpenTable. In addition, True Food Kitchen posted an open bartender position for the Bethesda restaurant on LinkedIn about two weeks ago.

As of Wednesday, the restaurant remains open, offering health-conscious dishes such as bowls and salads, sourdough pizzas, spaghetti squash casserole and flourless chocolate cake. True Food Kitchen focuses on nutritional recipes that use whole, anti-inflammatory ingredients and does not use seed oils, according to the restaurant.
