As the World Cup begins Thursday, sports fans will be focusing on North America as it hosts soccer’s biggest tournament through July 19.
If you want to watch a game on big screens, surrounded by fellow fans and perhaps while enjoying food and drink specials, here are some places in Montgomery County worth checking out:
Charley Chesapeake Chophouse
9811 Washingtonian Blvd. L9, Gaithersburg
Games occurring during regular business hours will be screened with food and drink specials including $1 oysters and $5 tequila shots for penalty kicks.

McGinty’s Public House
911 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring
While the Republic of Ireland team has not qualified for the tournament since 2002, this Irish pub in downtown Silver Spring will still be in the World Cup spirit, screening every game and offering game-day food and drink specials.
Señor Tequila’s
20021 Century Blvd., Germantown
This Mexican restaurant features 21 TVs and surround sound for every game. The eatery is offering giveaways, activities and soccer mystery boxes for attendees all tournament long.

This Gaithersburg restaurant is extending its happy hour for watch parties during the World Cup, with sushi, beer, wine and cocktails all available for purchase.
Bethesda Soccer Club
3 to 9 p.m. Fridays-Sundays during the World Cup
8707 Grovemont Circle, Redland
The Bethesda Soccer Club will hold World Cup watch parties every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at its performance center. There will be large screens to view the matches as well as open fields to play pickup games. There will also be food trucks on-site and concessions available for purchase.
Citadel Creole Cuisine

The restaurant is holding a watch party in partnership with the Haitian Renewal Alliance. The event will celebrate Haitian culture, music, food and drinks — including a signature rum punch. Tickets start at $10.

7301 Calhoun Place, Rockville
Friday’s Team USA game against Paraguay game at 9 p.m. and the USA vs. Australia match at 3 p.m. June 19 will be shown on big screens at both locations.
Uncle Marco’s Express

Uncle Marco’s Express in Gaithersburg will hold a watch party for the Team USA vs. Paraguay match. Authentic Paraguayan and Peruvian food will be available for purchase at this family-owned business.

The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association is hosting a Soccer Fest in conjunction with the Elite Soccer Youth Development Academy and Montgomery County Parks and Recreation. This event will feature soccer skills challenges, games and giveaways. Local soccer players will be at the family-friendly event that may also include a screening of a World Cup game played by Team USA.
