The Friday opening of Popup Bagels in downtown Bethesda has been postponed again, with a new opening date still to be determined, according to a public relations representative of the bagel company.

This is the second time the Connecticut-based bagel chain has pushed the opening of its new location.

Bethesda Today previously reported that the shop would open on July 24. However, the construction timeline changed, and the opening was delayed to Aug. 7. On July 29, a representative for the bagel chain told Bethesda Today that the Popup team encountered additional and unexpected delays.

The bagel chain did not immediately respond Tuesday morning to Bethesda Today’s email request for comment on a new opening timeline.

The chain, known for its whimsical cream cheese flavors, will open at 7607 Old Georgetown Road, on the ground floor of the Solaire apartment complex. The shop will be the bagel chain’s first in Maryland.

The eatery is expected to celebrate opening day with a public event and offer a limited Bethesda-exclusive cream cheese flavor – Chesapeake Spiced Schmear.

Popup Bagels was one of two bagel chains racing to open in downtown Bethesda this summer. Call Your Mother, a chain known for its creative bagel sandwich combinations, opened first on Monday in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle neighborhood at 4838 St. Elmo Ave.

New brunch spot: Easy Like Sunday now open in Silver Spring

Easy Like Sunday, a Baltimore-based brunch restaurant, is now open in downtown Silver Spring, according to the restaurant’s social media. The restaurant’s hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and only walk-ins are accepted.

The restaurant opened at 8455 Fenton Street in late July in the former spot of El Sapo Cuban Social Club, which closed in December 2024.

Easy Like Sunday is a full-service eatery offering American brunch and lunch dishes, some inspired by Southern flavors. For brunch, the eatery offers dishes such as shrimp and grits, fried chicken and cornmeal pancakes, and ricotta-stuffed French toast.

The restaurant also offers lunch items, including salads, burgers and hand-helds such as a fried fish sandwich and short rib grilled cheese. A children’s menu also is available.

Easy Like Sunday’s menu also offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including 10 specialty cocktails, mimosas and mimosa flights, wine, beer, coffee, tea and specialty espresso drinks.

Summer restaurant week returns in late August

The Metropolitan Washington Summer Restaurant Week will return on Aug. 24, bringing dining deals on three-course meals for brunch, lunch and dinner at dozens of restaurants in the region.

So far, 18 restaurants in Montgomery County are on the list to participate. That list includes eateries such as ala in Bethesda, Ayse Meze Lounge in Rockville, Caruso’s Grocery in Pike & Rose, J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse in Silver Spring and Salt & Vine in Olney.

During the restaurant week, hosted by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), eateries will offer $25 or $35 three-course brunch and lunch menus. For dinners, three-course meals can range from $40 to $65, according to the RAMW website.

RAMW’s official restaurant week will end on Aug. 30. However, some eateries may extend their restaurant week offerings and deals later.
