Fish Taco, a family-owned Mexican restaurant chain inspired by the coastal cuisine of Baja Mexico, is expected to open its newest location in Gaithersburg on Wednesday, according to a news release from the restaurant.

The new restaurant will be at 12117 Darnestown Road in the Shops at Potomac Valley. The shopping center is home to Chopin Noodle House, Gemelli’s Italian Market and Steeze Burger.

Fish Taco has five locations in Maryland and Virginia, three of which are in Montgomery County in downtown Bethesda, Cabin John and North Bethesda. The Gaithersburg location will be its sixth eatery.

The eatery offers “Baja-style” tacos, including blackened fish and salmon. Fresh seafood, salads, burritos, rice bowls and quesadillas are also available.

Also on the menu until July 31 are several specials, including cucumber gazpacho, salmon aquachile ceviche and wasabi shrimp tacos.

The Gaithersburg restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Agora to open in downtown Bethesda on July 10

Agora, a Mediterranean restaurant with locations in Washington, D.C., and Virginia, plans to open its new location in downtown Bethesda on July 10, according to a public relations representative for the restaurant.

The restaurant offers mezze platters, grilled entrees, seafood and kebabs on a menu inspired by the cuisines of Turkey, Greece and Lebanon, its website says. For dessert, diners can expect Mediterranean classics such as künefe and baklava.

Executive Chef Ismet Sahin will lead the Bethesda restaurant, which is owned by Betul Uslu and Ismail Uslu, according to the Agora website.

Agora will open in the former Daily Grill space at the Hyatt Regency hotel at One Bethesda Metro Center. The restaurant has two other locations in Dupont Circle and Tysons Corner in the District.

“Every dish we serve is rooted in tradition but reimagined with fresh, local ingredients and a modern touch,” the owners said in a July 2025 press release. “We’re especially excited to collaborate with Maryland farms and winemakers to ensure everything we offer is responsibly sourced and thoughtfully prepared.”

Call Your Mother eyes August opening in Bethesda

Bagel chain Call Your Mother is now aiming for an early August opening for its new downtown Bethesda location, Keri Ann Meslar, the chain’s vice president of brand and marketing, confirmed Friday to Bethesda Today.

“The team is working super hard on the space,” Meslar said in an email to Bethesda Today.

The opening of the Woodmont Triangle bagel shop at 4838 St. Elmo Ave. will mark the chain’s return to the downtown Bethesda area. The chain operated a pink and teal mobile “Lil’ Deli” at a site on Old Georgetown Road but moved the deli to a new location in Riverdale in Prince George’s County in February 2025.

Call Your Mother, known for its breakfast sandwiches, announced its return to Bethesda in August 2025. Original plans anticipated an early 2026 opening.

Co-founder Andrew Dana told Bethesda Today in August that the new location will be in the 1990s home of a Johnny Rockets diner. He noted he had eaten his “fair share of shakes and fries” at that restaurant. The space later became the home of Hardwood Artisans.

The new location is at the corner of Norfolk and St. Elmo avenues, surrounded by eateries including Max’s Best Ice Cream, Kusshi Sushi, Rosetta Bakery and Jetties. In recent weeks, the outside façade of the Woodmont Triangle shop was painted a bright teal blue, indicating that the colorful bagel chain is making progress.
