SUV driven by 15-year-old hits off-duty police officer’s cruiser, crashes into Silver Spring home

Two others fled vehicle driven by teen, police say

A Hyundai SUV driven by a 15-year-old collided with an off-duty police officer’s cruiser and then crashed into a Silver Spring home on Tuesday afternoon, Montgomery County police said in a social media post.  

In a post shortly after 4 p.m., police said officers arrived at the scene of a collision on the 12800 block of Bushey Drive in Silver Spring. Preliminary information found that the initial call involved a collision with an off-duty police officer, police said.  

The incident occurred at roughly 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, police spokesperson Shiera Goff said in an email to Bethesda Today.  

The teen driver involved in the initial collision drove off and then crashed into the Silver Spring home. The teen was then taken into custody, police said. Two other occupants in the car ran from the scene.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews (MCFRS) were at the home attempting to remove the car, which appeared in photos to be a blue Hyundai SUV. At roughly 3 p.m., MCFRS crews said over radio transmissions that no one was trapped in the vehicle.
