A woman who was found dead in her Burtonsville home on Saturday evening after failing to show up for work was allegedly killed by her 28-year-old son, who lived with her, Montgomery County police said Monday in a press release.

Police identified the woman as Glenda Patricia Salamanca Reyes, 50, and said her son, Ricardo Adelsco Colato Salamanca, allegedly stabbed her multiple times, according to the release.

Colato Salamanca was taken into custody early Monday in North Carolina and faces charges of first-degree murder and motor vehicle theft, according to police. He is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday. County police were dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane after someone called for a welfare check on Salamanca Reyes because she did not report for work, police said.

When police arrived at Salamanca Reyes’ apartment, officers found the woman in the hallway with “apparent trauma” to her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy conducted Sunday by the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Salamanca Reyes died from multiple stab wounds and the manner of her death was homicide.

Detectives with the department’s Major Crimes Division Homicide Unit also responded to the scene and determined that Salamanca Reyes’ son lived with her. Responding officers had seen a white 2019 Jeep Compass that belonged to Salamanca Reyes leaving the apartment building’s parking lot, police said.

Information about the Jeep Compass was entered into the National Crime Information Center, a law enforcement database used to identify stolen vehicles or vehicles linked to crimes, police said. The vehicle was later tracked traveling southbound on Interstate 95.

On Sunday, police obtained an arrest warrant for Colato Salamanca, which charged him with first-degree murder and motor vehicle theft, according to the release.

Early Monday, members of the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force located Colato Salamanca at a truck stop in Salisbury, North Carolina, police said in the release. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

No online Maryland court records were available Monday for the case. Attorney information also was not available.
