Silver & Sons BBQ, which serves barbecue inspired by Jewish and Mediterranean cuisine, announced this week that it is relocating its trailer from Poolesville’s Rocklands Farm Winery to the Bethesda Community Store property and plans to open for service on Sunday, according to an emailed announcement.
The move comes as the Bethesda Community Store at 88804 Old Georgetown Road has undergone a renovation. A neighborhood fixture for decades, the store in the nearly 101-year-old building closed for business in 2016. Sandy Spring Building owners Mimi Brodsky Kress and Phil Leibovitz, who live in Bethesda, now own the property and have been renovating it.
Silver & Sons BBQ will operate its trailer outside the store, offering its signature smoked meats alongside a new morning commuter menu featuring breakfast sandwiches, pitas and pastries, according to the announcement.
“Sunday is like a soft launch. We’re going to open for the day and feed whoever comes around, and then go to a full-on schedule next week,” Jarrad Silver, chef and owner of Silver & Sons BBQ, told Bethesda Today on Friday.

The barbecue business, which also operates a food truck and has a brick-and-mortar store at 5362 Westbard Ave. in Bethesda, will officially open at its new location at 11 a.m. Sunday. Beginning next week, Silver & Sons BBQ plans to operate the trailer Tuesday through Sunday and will introduce a new breakfast menu in addition to its usual barbeque fare.
According to Silver, the new location will be a “test fit” to see if there may be an opportunity to expand inside the community store depending on the “community response.”
While the trailer has left Rocklands Farm Winery, the business emphasized its food truck will continue to make appearances there.

Silver, a Bethesda native and Kensington resident, created Silver & Sons BBQ as a “backyard barbecue company” in November 2020.
After the initial launch, the business quickly gained traction and in March 2022, Silver debuted a food truck in the parking lot of Captain’s Market, a seafood market and eatery on MacArthur Boulevard in Cabin John.
Now, customers can find Silver & Sons BBQ’s products through its food truck, which stops at local breweries, wineries and farmers markets, as well as its shop and trailer.
