A natural gas line severed by construction workers resulted in the closure Thursday morning of some travel lanes and roads in Rockville Town Center, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) officials and radio transmissions.
MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said on social media that crews were dispatched Thursday morning to the area between North Washington Street and East Montgomery Avenue for a severed natural gas line.
MCFRS crews were dispatched at 9:14 a.m. and, according to MCFRS radio transmissions, nearby buildings reported the smell of gas from the ruptured line. Initial first responders estimated the line to be about 2 to 3 inches in diameter, according to radio transmissions.
At roughly 9:30 a.m., MCFRS crews said Washington Gas workers were on scene. A spokesperson for Washington Gas didn’t immediately respond Thursday morning to Bethesda Today’s requests for comment about the incident.
