A 26-year-old Silver Spring man has been charged in connection with a July fatal pedestrian collision in Kensington involving the U.S. Postal Service van he was driving and 64-year-old Mairi Nicola Morrison of Garrett Park, Montgomery County police said Friday in a press release.
The collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. on July 16 at the Mobil gas station at 10625 Connecticut Ave., according to the release.
In investigating the incident, Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives determined that Oscar Pedrozo was leaving the Mobil gas station and attempting to turn northbound onto Connecticut Avenue at the same time Morrison was walking southbound on the sidewalk, the release said. The van struck Morrison as she entered the driveway entrance.
MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer told reporters at the time that Morrison had been pinned under the van when first responders arrived. Morrison was transported to an area hospital, where she died due to her injuries, police said.

Pedrozo faces one charge of criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle, according to online court records. The investigation found that Pedrozo was allegedly wearing earbuds and listening to music at the time of the collision.
Thomas Mooney, Pedrozo’s attorney, did not immediately respond to Bethesda Today’s request for comment on Friday afternoon.
According to online court records, Pedrozo is scheduled to go to trial in the Montgomery County District Court in Rockville on May 14 at 8:30 a.m. The manslaughter charge he faces is a misdemeanor and is punishable with up to 3 years of prison time and/or a $5,000 fine, according to Maryland law.
Police allege that after the van’s initial impact with Morrison, Pedrozo continued driving forward and then reversed while Morrison was underneath the vehicle.
