Montgomery County police identified the victim of a fatal Thursday morning shooting in Gaithersburg as Christopher Gove, 32, of Gaithersburg, according to a Friday statement.

According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:55 a.m. to the 12500 block of Carrington Hill Drive for a report of a shooting. Upon arriving, they found Gove in his residence, “suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.” Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer described the man’s injuries as life-threatening in a separate social media post Thursday.

Gove was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, according to police. No suspect was in custody as of Friday morning.

Police said Friday that after finding Gove, officers were dispatched to the area of West Montgomery Avenue and Darnestown Road for a reported single-vehicle collision. There they found Gove’s black Toyota Highlander, which was unoccupied.

The department is asking those in the Willow Ridge neighborhood, as well as the area of West Montgomery Avenue and Darnestown Road, to check surveillance or Ring video camera footage for any suspicious activity or the appearance of the black Toyota Highlander or anyone entering or exiting the SUV, according to the statement.
