A 29-year-old Rockville man killed in a motorcycle crash at a busy Chevy Chase intersection Tuesday morning has been identified as Daniel Arthur Leone IV, Montgomery County police said in a press release Wednesday.

County police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded around 6:14 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Manor Road in Chevy Chase for reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. The motorcyclist, now identified as Leone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say a gray 2026 Tesla Model Y was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Connecticut Avenue onto eastbound Manor Road when it was struck by a red 2015 BMW S1000 motorcycle headed north. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

Radio transmissions from fire officials around 6:20 a.m. indicated that a patient was “down” in the southbound left-turn lane. MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the crash involved traumatic injuries and led to lane closures along Connecticut Avenue.

The driver of the Tesla, a woman, remained at the scene and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation, which officials say could take several weeks or longer to complete. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 240-773-6620.
