Montgomery County police identified Marjorie Rothschild, 76, of Potomac as the woman who died Monday after the SUV she was driving struck a cable barricade in a parking garage in Rockville, the department said Friday in a statement.

Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded at about 5:30 p.m. to the garage in the 11300 block of Woodglen Drive for a report of a single-vehicle collision, police said Friday.

According to MCFRS radio transmissions, the location is the garage near a Whole Foods Market at 11355 Woodglen Drive.

The investigation found that Rothschild had driven a blue 2016 Toyota RAV4 into the parking garage off Marketplace Lane when she lost control of the car and struck a cable barricade. Officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, the statement said.

A man riding in the SUV was transported to a local hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

According to MCFRS radio transmissions, the 75-year-old man was transported to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda as a priority 2 patient, defined by Maryland EMS protocols as someone with “less serious condition yet potentially life-threatening injury or illness, requiring emergency medical attention but not immediately endangering the patient’s life.”

In the radio report to the hospital, a first responder described the collision as “low impact” with “moderate front-end damage to the vehicle.”

The collision is under investigation by the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit. Police asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
