Montgomery County police identified Sukhbir Singh, 52, of Gaithersburg as the man who died Monday morning from injuries he suffered during a single-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon in Derwood, the department said Tuesday in a statement.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the report of a collision in the area of Crabbs Branch Way and Moccasin Lane.
According to police, Singh was traveling south on Crabbs Branch Way in a white 2021 Toyota Avalon when, for reasons still under investigation, the car left the roadway and struck a tree.
When officers and MCFRS crews arrived, Singh was located and transported to an area hospital. He died Monday morning, according to the statement.

A GoFundMe organized by Singh’s family said he was driving home in heavy rain and his car hydroplaned and collided with a tree. Iqroop Singh, the organizer and one of Singh’s two children, wrote that Sukhbir Singh “was someone who truly loved people.” Iqroop Singh didn’t immediately respond to Bethesda Today’s request for an interview on Tuesday afternoon.
“He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and comfortable within minutes. His warmth was something you couldn’t miss,” the GoFundMe said. “Through his work, he built relationships with countless customers and coworkers who became like family to him. Many knew him as ‘Suki,’ a name that carried his kindness, his energy, and his light.”
According to the GoFundMe, which did not have donations as of Tuesday afternoon, Sukhbir Singh leaves behind a wife, daughter and son. Donations would go toward medical and cremation expenses.
“He always said to live life to the fullest, and he truly lived by those words,” Iqroop Singh wrote in the GoFundMe. “He gave his whole heart to his family, his work, and everyone around him. He was not just our father, but our support system, our safe place, and the person who made everything feel okay.”
