Less than two weeks after a fatal shooting outside of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel in Rockville, Montgomery County police say a suspect is in custody.
Terrance Brainell Williams, 41, of Silver Spring, was arrested Wednesday at his residence, police said Wednesday in a new release. Williams is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Quentin Tyrone Davis, 41, of no known address, on May 14.
After his arrest, police said Williams was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where he is being held pending a bond hearing.
Online court records related to the case were not available via the Maryland Case Search database on Wednesday afternoon. Attorney information for Williams also was not available.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the hotel at 5701 Marinelli Road. Shortly after, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the hotel for the report of a shooting and found Davis dead in the parking lot, according to police.
According to charging documents for Williams, an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death to be a homicide.
Davis was a guest at the hotel and was walking alone through the parking lot toward the hotel when the shooting occurred. An investigation of the incident revealed that a suspect, later identified as Williams, confronted Davis while he was walking and shortly after, shot Davis and fled the area, police said.
Detectives linked Williams to the shooting after reviewing surveillance footage from the hotel and from the nearby White Flint Station shopping center, according to charging documents. Footage from the shopping center, described in the charging documents, showed a light gray Nissan Maxima without a front tag pulling into the parking spot near the shooting scene at 11:22 a.m. A suspect wearing dark clothing exits the driver’s side of the car and walks toward the hotel.

After the shooting, the footage shows the same suspect walk from the homicide scene and drive away in the Nissan on Rockville Pike, according to charging documents. Another camera attached to a police pole near the scene revealed the Nissan had a blue air freshener hanging from the vehicle’s rear-view mirror.
According to charging documents, surveillance footage from the hotel showed a suspect approach Davis from behind and point a handgun at him. Davis raised his hands in the air before he and the suspect moved out of view from the camera, documents state.
Bystanders in the area after the shooting advised detectives that they heard a single gunshot and then saw a man in all dark clothing flee toward Rockville Pike, charging documents said. One shell casing was found near Davis’s body.
Another witness who was at the scene told police that she knew Davis and could identify the shooter, charging documents said. The witness said Davis and Williams knew each other from prison and had a recent falling out due to a property dispute. On the day of the shooting, Davis and Williams were in communication, and the two men had “exchanged threats,” documents state.
According to charging documents, Williams has a criminal history with convictions in Montgomery County Circuit Court in 2005 for attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a crime of violence. He was released from prison in September 2025.

According to online court records, Davis faced three criminal indictments in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in 2003, 2006 and 2023 on charges of robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
Detectives later connected Williams to the vehicle seen in the area after the shooting, and confirmed Williams was in the area at the time of the shooting through cellphone location data, according to charging documents. They later conducted covert surveillance of Williams’ apartment on Newell Street in Silver Spring and saw him driving a Nissan Maxima with a blue air freshener.
