Police arrest, charge 34-year old for attempted murder in stabbing in The Angry Jerk 

Man allegedly entered Silver Spring restaurant bathroom, stabbed man he didn’t know

A 34-year-old man is being charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a stabbing that occurred in The Angry Jerk, a Silver Spring restaurant, on July 10, according to a Tuesday statement from Montgomery County police.  

Mark Reginald Melton, who does not have a fixed address, was arrested in Washington D.C. on July 30 by the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force for a warrant issued by Montgomery County police for attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and related charges. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where he’s being held without bond.  

Melton was not listed in online court records as of Tuesday afternoon.  

Police said on Tuesday that officers were dispatched to The Angry Jerk, 8223 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, on July 10. At roughly 10:30 p.m., Melton allegedly entered the men’s bathroom and stabbed another man several times before leaving the scene. Melton and the man who was stabbed did not know each other, according to Carlos Cortes, a spokesperson for Montgomery County police in an email to Bethesda Today on Tuesday.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) radio transmissions, the man, 41, suffered at least three stab wounds, including wounds to the back of his head.  

Officers reviewed the businesses’ surveillance footage, obtained a description of Melton and later identified him as suspect. Cortes said that officers used a variety of investigative methods to identify Melton, “including a review of surveillance footage and interviews with the victim and witnesses.”
