Make a ContributionThe visiting Bullis School Bulldogs beat the Landon School Bears 5-2 in Bethesda on Friday in the latest chapter of the boys lacrosse rivalry.
The Bulldogs came into Friday’s game 9-1 and on a four-game winning streak, where they had outscored opponents 68-22. They were ranked No. 3 in Sports Illustrated’s mid-season rankings for teams in the Baltimore-DMV area. The Bears, who also had only one loss going into Friday’s game, were ranked No. 6 in the Baltimore-DMV area by Sports Illustrated and had outscored opponents 68-55 in seven games.
The Bulldogs head coach Jeff Bellistri credited defensive coordinator Noah Joseph for the team’s ability to keep the ball out of their net Friday.
“To limit a team as good as Landon to two goals, it’s quite an accomplishment,” Bellistri said.

The Bulldogs sophomore midfielder Mason Keller was the first on the board only four minutes into the game. It was the Bulldogs goalie, senior Jake Zamoiski, who kept his team in the game with four saves when the Bears tried to counter. After the game, Zamoiski credited his teammates abilities to communicate with him throughout the pressure.
“I got the shots I wanted to see from talking to my defense” he said. “They are fantastic listeners.”
As the first quarter started to wind down, saves were being made on both ends. Then Keller hopped on a loose ball left open in front of the net and struck again. The quarter ended with Keller’s goals being the only ones given up by either team.
The referees were granting the teams a lot of leeway physically, but the Bulldogs ended up giving up two penalties within the first minute and fifteen seconds of the second quarter.

The Bulldogs killed the penalties with saves by Zamoiski. Then junior attackman Sully Flach scored a flashy goal from a powerful mid-range shot to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead they would take into halftime. Flach is committed to play lacrosse at Division III Dickinson College and will play alongside fellow Dickinson commit Zamoiski.
After the break, the Bears started keeping up the pressure and moving the ball around, but still couldn’t figure out Zamoiski, who made two early saves again.
After the Bulldogs marched up field, Bears goalie and Division II Mercyhurst University commit, senior Eli Green, returned the favor with a highlight reel kick save of his own. Green then made two more saves in the span of a minute, but the Bears took a holding penalty to keep the pressure high.
Right after killing the penalty, Bears senior midfielder Mack Cohen, found a hole in the Bulldogs defense and patiently took his shot, scoring and giving the Bears momentum despite trailing 3-1.
With just more than a minute left in the third, senior attackman Joe Papalia received a pass from Benny Neverosky to set up a shot past Zamoiski, and the Bulldog lead was cut to one.

As the fourth quarter began, the Bears comeback hopes dimmed. Division I University of Pennsylvania commit, senior midfielder Cooper Kuehl scored twice in less than 30 seconds for the Bulldogs.
“The first time I saw the ball hit the back of the net, I was like alright, it’s not that hard,” said Kuehl after the game. “I sort of felt hot going into the next possession and called my number a little bit.”
The midfielder is ranked as a top 100 player in his class according to insidelacrosse.com
With 2:10 left to go, fellow Bulldog and UPenn commit, midfielder Luke Myre scored on a rocket of a shot as he got slammed to the ground.
