A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning after a collision with a vehicle in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County police said in a statement.

According to police, officers were dispatched at roughly 6:15 a.m. to Manor Road and Connecticut Avenue for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) radio transmissions, the collision involved a black Tesla and a motorcyclist. At roughly 6:20 a.m., MCFRS crews reported on radio transmissions that a patient was “down” in the southbound Connecticut Avenue left turn lane. MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said on social media the incident involved a traumatic injury and some lanes on Connecticut Avenue were blocked.

At roughly 6:40 a.m., police said on social media the motorcyclist had been pronounced dead. The female driver of the Tesla remained on scene and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The collision resulted in the closure of Connecticut Avenue for the majority of the morning commute. According to Alert Montgomery, all lanes of Connecticut Avenue from Jones Bridge Road to Manor Road had reopened as of 10:35 a.m. Drivers should expect residual delays.

Police said the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatal collision and that more information, such as the name of the motorcyclist, would be released when it becomes available and following proper notification of the next of kin.
