A 25-year-old man died Saturday night in Gaithersburg after the motorcycle he was riding and another vehicle collided, Montgomery County police said Monday morning in a news release.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Roger Gustavo Pineda Cardona of Gaithersburg. Pineda Cardona was riding a green 2008 Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle.

The collision occurred around 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of West Diamond Avenue and the I-270 ramp, according to police. The area is near the Firstfield Shopping Center and the National Institute of Standards and Technology campus.

Around 9:43 p.m., county officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the intersection for the report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

An investigation found that Pineda Cardona’s motorcycle was traveling eastbound on West Diamond Avenue and approaching the I-270 overpass when it collided with the rear of a black 2022 Toyota Camry, according to police.

The Toyota, which had three occupants, was making a left turn from westbound West Diamond Avenue onto southbound I-270, police said.

Responding officers and MCFRS crews found Pineda Cardona at the scene suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said. He was taken to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota, as well as the two passengers in the car, remained at the scene following the collision, according to the release. They were not injured, police said.
