Micah Wiggins—a former Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) teacher and current Baltimore County principal— is the new principal of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring following his appointment Thursday by the county school board.
Wiggins was one of three administrators appointed by the board during its meeting at its Rockville headquarters. The board also voted to appoint Kimberly Haden to serve as principal of Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School in Germantown and Kristen Reza as principal of Burnt Mills Elementary School in Silver Spring.
All three will assume their new posts on July 1.
Wiggins, the current principal of Parkville Elementary in Baltimore County, will replace Sherwood High Principal Timothy Britton, who announced in a March letter to the school community that he would be retiring at the end of the school year.

“I firmly believe in the power of a school community where everyone works together for success,” Wiggins said in his first letter to the school community on May 21. “I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside all members of the community as we continue to write the next chapter of Sherwood’s story together.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Wiggins worked in MCPS for a total of 19 years – first as a social studies teacher at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, then as an assistant principal at Walter Johnson High in Bethesda, Albert Einsten High in Kensington, Paint Branch High in Burtonsville and Briggs Chaney Middle in Silver Spring.
Haden, another MCPS veteran, has spent 25 years with the district, including as an art teacher, staff development teacher and assistant principal. She is currently the principal intern at Rachel Carson Elementary School in Gaithersburg. Haden will be replacing James Sweeney as the principal of Matsunaga Elementary.
Reza has worked for MCPS for 20 years as a teacher, staff development teacher and assistant principal. Reza is the principal intern at JoAnne Leleck Elementary in Silver Spring and began her education career serving as a student intern at Burnt Mills Elementary, according to Thursday’s board meeting.

Reza will take over for Principal Stacy Ashton, who announced her retirement Feb. 27 after 12 years as head of the Silver Spring school.
“I look forward to deepening our collaboration through open communication, shared goals, and meaningful opportunities for family involvement at Burnt Mills Elementary School,” Reza said in a letter sent Thursday to the school community. “Together, we will continue building a learning community rooted in relationships, respect, and high expectations for all.”
