The man fatally shot outside of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Rockville on Thursday morning has been identified as 41-year-old Quentin Tyrone Davis of no known address, Montgomery County police said Friday in a news release.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the hotel at 5701 Marinelli Road. Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the hotel for the report of a shooting and found Davis in the parking lot with a gunshot wound, the release said.

Officers and MCFRS crews provided lifesaving measures, but Davis ultimately succumbed to the wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said Davis was a guest at the hotel and he was walking alone through the parking lot toward the hotel when the shooting occurred.

An investigation of the incident revealed that an unknown suspect confronted Davis while he was walking and shortly after, shot Davis and fled the area, police said.

As of Friday, police do not have a description of or information about the suspect. According to the Friday release, county police, along with deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Metro Transit Police, canvassed the area after the shooting.

Law enforcement also canvassed nearby Metro trains to try and locate the suspect but were unsuccessful. The entrance to the North Bethesda Metro station is directly across Rockville Pike from the hotel parking lot.

County police are asking anyone with information about the homicide to visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County online or call 1-866-411-8477. Tips can remain anonymous and any that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $10,000.

According to visitors at the hotel on Thursday and online records, the hotel was hosting a Data Center Investment Conference and Expo from Tuesday to Thursday. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright was set to speak at the event Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Shiera Goff told reporters at the scene Thursday that there were no indications that the shooting and the conference were connected.
