An argument between two intoxicated men led to a stabbing early Thursday on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.

At 1:45 a.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the 12500 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring for a report of a man stabbed in the arm, police said in an incident alert posted to social media.

While MCFRS crews tended to the stabbing victim, officers attempted to take the suspected perpetrator into custody, police spokesperson Shiera Goff told Bethesda Today in a Thursday morning phone interview. He resisted arrest, Goff said, which led officers to use a Taser on him.

The stabbing victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Per department policy on the use of a Taser, police also transported the suspect to a hospital for examination. He was then taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, Goff said.

Preliminarily, Goff said, the suspected perpetrator is charged with first-degree assault. Additional charges may follow. As of Thursday morning, police had not released the identities of either person involved in the stabbing.
