Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred early Saturday morning in a residential neighborhood near downtown Bethesda, the department said Saturday in a news release.
Saturday’s release did not identify the man who died. Police spokesperson Casandra Tressler said Monday morning in an email to Bethesda Today that the department planned to release more details about the collision later on Monday.
Around 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, Montgomery County police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to the 7100 block of Glenbrook Road in Bethesda for the collision involving a 2022 white Toyota Venza, according to the release.
The incident occurred in Bethesda’s Whitehall Manor neighborhood, which is near Bethesda Row and the Edgemoor Lane and Hampden Lane Park.

According to police, a preliminary investigation of the incident found that the driver of the Toyota was traveling on Glenbrook Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole and then a tree. The reasons for the collision are still under investigation.
The man driving the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene and an adult passenger in the car was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to police. The release did not include details about the gender or identity of the passenger.
MCFRS crews transported one person from the scene to the hospital with traumatic injuries, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said Saturday morning in a social media post.
After the collision, Glenbrook Road was closed between Audubon Road and Hampden Lane, according to Piringer’s post.
