Kensington private school evacuated due to ‘major gas leak’
Leak was contained within 30 minutes of initial call, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service radio transmissions

A Kensington private school was evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a major gas leak, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service radio transmissions.
Just before 2 p.m., MCFRS crews were dispatched to the area of Strathmore Avenue and Academy Park Drive for the gas leak, according to radio transmissions.
Around the same time, MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote in a post on social media that the nearby Academy of the Holy Cross had been evacuated and the gas company was en route. A hazardous materials team was also at the scene to assist.
As of approximately 2:16 p.m., Washington Gas crews had arrived on the scene and were assembling equipment to work to contain the leak, according to MCFRS radio transmissions. The leak had been stopped by 2:21 p.m.

According to radio transmissions, school officials were coordinating with the gas company about student pick-up.
