On Friday, U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby sentenced Thomas Goldstein of Chevy Chase, a Supreme Court litigator and co-founder of the SCOTUSblog, to six years in prison. Goldstein was convicted in February on federal charges tied to tax evasion and mortgage fraud, stemming from a scheme to conceal millions in gambling winnings. [Associated Press]

Driver dead after single-vehicle crash in Silver Spring

A man is dead after the Mercedes he was driving hit a center median and then a tree in the 11800 block of New Hampshire Avenue early Saturday morning. The man’s  identity has not yet been released. [DC News Now]

Chevy Chase home owned by Chief Justice John Roberts sells

U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts’s seven-bedroom, five-bath home in Chevy Chase was put on the market in late June for $3.2 million and was under contract four days later. Closing is anticipated for this week and it is unclear where his next address will be. [Washington Business Journal]
