A Germantown man who was shot by Montgomery County police in Montgomery Village on Tuesday has been charged with attempted murder and related charges, police said Friday in a press release.

Police say Andre Duvall, 27, fired multiple shots at a county police officer during the incident that occurred inside of an apartment complex on Lost Knife Circle. The officer returned fire and struck Duvall twice, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. The officer has not been identified.

Video containing the police body-worn camera footage from the shooting is expected to be released to the public early next week, police said in the Friday release.

According to online court records, Duvall faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and several firearms-related charges in connection with the incident.

Duvall is being represented by a public defender, according to court records. The Maryland Office of the Public Defender did not immediately respond to Bethesda Today’s request for comment Friday afternoon.

Mark Wahl, a strategic communications specialist for the U.S. Postal Service, said Friday in an email to Bethesda Today that Pedrozo remains an employee with the postal service, but he could not discuss internal personnel matters or the status of his employment.

County police officers were patrolling a shopping center off Contour Road shortly before 5 p.m. due to “numerous citizen complaints of criminal activity,” according to county police Chief Marc Yamada at a press conference Tuesday evening. Two officers saw a man—later identified as Duvall—acting “suspiciously,” Yamada said, and attempted to stop him.

The officers followed the man on foot as he ran across the street into the Cider Mill Apartments in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle, Yamada said. As the officers rounded a corner, Yamada said the man fired a gun “directly at our officers,” so one of the officers returned fire, striking the man.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to the scene and, according to MCFRS radio transmissions, at about 5:15 p.m., crews told Suburban Hospital in Bethesda that they were en route with a man suffering from two “penetrating injuries” to his buttocks. Assistant Chief Darren Francke said at the Tuesday press conference that the shooting happened in the courtyard area of the apartment complex and that the man was injured in the upper torso and in the leg.

Police said in the Friday press release that Duvall was released from the hospital the same day as the shooting and was then transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, where he continues to be held without bond.

Aside from Duvall, no other injuries involving officers or bystanders were reported, according to police. A handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting. The release did not say whether the gun belonged to Duvall.

According to police, Duvall has a prior criminal indictment that prohibits him from possessing any firearms. According to online court records, in 2019, Duvall pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, a felony, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison with all but four years and six months suspended.

While the department plans to release body-camera video from the incident, it is unclear if the radio transmissions will also be released. The county police department fully encrypted its radio transmissions over several months in 2025, citing concerns about the public transmission of sensitive information concerning police operations and the people involved.
