A 2014 law in Montgomery County allowed salons to apply for a license to serve beer and wine. In July 2025, a new law went into effect renaming the “beauty salon beer and wine license” as the “beauty salon and barbershop beer, wine and liquor license,” making it easier for the spots that cater to men to say cheers—and to allow businesses for men and women to offer sips of spirits.

The newest barbershop planning to offer a drink to each customer is Hammer & Nails, scheduled to open in July at 7712 Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda. It’s slated to be the first Maryland spot for the national chain with more than 50 locations. Another shop in Potomac’s Cabin John Village is expected to open soon after. The franchise owners plan to offer a complimentary beer, wine or mixed drink to each customer. A haircut is $75. The salon also offers memberships (a “classic” membership is $120 per month and includes two services—haircut, manicure, pedicure, waxing or shave; higher membership levels are also available).

Here are other spots where you can enjoy a drink while getting groomed.

    Barbers and Brew

Opened in 2020 in downtown Rockville, Barbers and Brew offers each customer one complimentary alcoholic drink—either a 7 Locks Brewing beer or 1.7 ounces of Song Dog Farm Distillery spirits—and one nonalcoholic beverage, such as coffee from Neighbors Coffee, soda, juice, sparkling or still water. Haircuts are $35 to $50.

    Bearded Goat

The Kentlands outpost of Bearded Goat—one of five in this local chain—opened in February 2025 and offers customers complimentary Commonwealth Joe nitro cold brew on tap and cans of Bearded Goat Lager brewed by Aslin Beer Co. Haircuts are $50 to $60.

    Great Vibes Barbershop

Complimentary snacks are offered along with one free drink from a rotating selection at Great Vibes Barbershop. In March, the offerings were beer from Brookeville Beer Farm, Waredaca Brewing Co., Lone Oak Farm Brewing Co. and Elder Pine Brewing & Blending Co., hard seltzers, hard ciders and tequila shots. Open since 2018, Great Vibes is by appointment only and cuts are $45 to $60.

    Tapers & Tequila

Opened in June 2025, Tapers & Tequila is a barbershop, lounge and event space. Because it holds a different type of license, drinks are available for purchase to sip while receiving services or hanging in the lounge. On the menu: beer, wine and spirits (including tequila brands such as Don Julio and Casamigos). The space is available for private events. Haircuts are $50 to $75. The owners also run Royal Cut Kings barbershop (sans alcoholic drinks) and Slash Lash, which provides beauty services, both in Gaithersburg.
