Six people are displaced after a house fire early Monday morning in Silver Spring’s Cloverly area destroyed their home, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson David Pazos.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation and will be released later Monday, Pazos told Bethesda Today on Monday morning.

At 5:16 a.m., MCFRS crews were dispatched to the home in the 14800 block of Maydale Court after a man who lived in the home called 911 and reported a fire inside the home, Pazos said.

According to Pazos, the man woke up Monday morning to use the bathroom and smelled smoke in the bedroom. When he got to the bathroom, he saw fire inside and woke up the other people in the home to get them out, Pazos said. He then called 911.

The occupants of the home are two older adults and three children ages 4 to 12 years old, according to Pazos.

By the time firefighters arrived at the home, all occupants of the home were standing outside of the one-story house, Pazos said. A cat that lived in the home also escaped the fire.

Fire crews encountered “heavy fire” at the front of the house, Pazos said, but were able to extinguish the blaze quickly. Approximately 55 firefighters responded to the incident.

    No injuries were reported.

After the fire was extinguished, MCFRS contacted the Red Cross, which is helping to relocate the family, according to Pazos.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
