Elderly pedestrian injured after being struck by car in Rockville

Make a ContributionAn elderly woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a car in Rockville on Thursday afternoon, according to local police and radio transmissions from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
At 3:42 p.m., Montgomery County police officers responded to the 600 block of North Horners Lane in Rockville for a report of a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, officers found a woman with serious injuries. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene, the department said in a social media post.

In radio transmissions, MCFRS personnel described the woman who was struck as “geriatric,” a medical term for an elderly person. According to the radio transmissions, both of the woman’s femurs were fractured and she sustained abrasions to her chest. She was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda for treatment.
As of about 4 p.m., police said North Horners Lane was closed between Lincoln and Frederick avenues. Police encouraged drivers to expect delays and seek an alternate route.

In a separate post on social media at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Rockville City police said Southlawn and North Horners lanes would be closed for several hours “due to a serious pedestrian collision.” The city’s police department said the Montgomery County police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was investigating the incident.
