Driver dies after collision with tractor trailer on I-270 in Rockville
Incident has closed northbound lanes, extended delays expected

A fatal crash involving a tractor trailer and a vehicle Friday morning is causing major delays in both directions of I-270, according to an alert on social media by the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC) program.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson David Pazos said Friday morning on social media that the man driving the vehicle was extricated from the vehicle “in trauma arrest” and later died.

The collision occurred in the northbound express lanes of I-270 before the Shady Grove Road exit, according to Pazos. First responders were dispatched around 7:24 a.m.
According to Pazos, the driver of the tractor trailer was evaluated by MCFRS crews and declined transport to a hospital.

As of 9:10 a.m., three right lanes of the northbound I-270 remain blocked and traffic is moving through two open left lanes, according to a MATOC alert. Northbound delays reached about 2.5 miles.
The MATOC alert noted that extended closure of lanes on I-270 is expected and southbound rubbernecking delays span about 2 miles.
