Community rallies to support family of Rockville man killed in motorcycle crash

Nearly $20K raised through GoFundMe

The community is rallying around the family of Jacob James Hale, the 20-year-old man who was killed in an early-morning motorcycle accident in June in Rockville.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $19,480 as of Monday morning to cover funeral and other expenses. According to the page, a service for Hale is scheduled for Monday.

Bethesda Today reached out to the organizers through GoFundMe on Thursday and received a response over the holiday weekend, but have not yet been able to connect for an interview.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, love, and for keeping Jacob’s family in your thoughts,” the co-organizers, Grace Marple and Jenny Sier said in the GoFundMe description.

Jenny Sier is Jacob’s grandmother, according to the obituaries of Hale and his grandfather.

“Every bit of support means the world to us as we come together to remember Jacob and help his family through this challenging time,” the statement also read.

Hale was riding a black 2007 Honda CBR600 motorcycle westbound on Norbeck Road in Rockville around 1:15 a.m. on June 21 when his motorcycle made contact with a black 2006 Honda CBR600 near the intersection with Hannans Way, according to Montgomery County police. Both drivers, who had been traveling together, then lost control of their motorcycles and crashed.

Hale hit a curb and traffic sign support and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. The rider of the second motorcycle was not injured in the collision and remained at the scene, according to police.

Organizers of the campaign described Hale as someone who was dependable and willing to help. 

“Jacob was the kind of person you could always count on, whether you needed a helping hand or someone to listen,” the GoFundMe description reads. “He was lovable, generous, and always ready to support those around him.”
