About Bethesda Daily

Bethesda Daily is a local news site covering Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Rockville, and the greater Montgomery County area. We aggregate and curate the most important local stories from trusted sources so you can stay informed about what matters in your neighborhood — all in one place.

Our mission is simple: make it easy for Montgomery County residents to follow the news that affects their daily lives, from school board decisions and development projects to restaurant openings and community events.

Meet the Editor

Dan Murphy is the founder and editor of Bethesda Daily. Born and raised in Bethesda, Dan grew up just off Old Georgetown Road and graduated from Walt Whitman High School before earning a journalism degree from the University of Maryland.

After a decade covering local government and education for the Washington Post’s Montgomery County bureau, Dan spent five years as a senior editor at Bethesda Magazine, where he led their digital expansion and investigative reporting team. His work has been recognized by the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

In 2026, Dan launched Bethesda Daily to fill a gap he’d seen growing for years: as legacy newsrooms shrink, hyper-local coverage of the issues that matter most — zoning hearings, school safety, transit changes, small business news — was disappearing. Bethesda Daily was built to bring that coverage back.

When he’s not chasing a story, Dan can be found walking his two rescue dogs, Max and Penny, along the Capital Crescent Trail, or grabbing coffee at Bethesda Bagels on Wisconsin Avenue. He lives in Woodmont Triangle with his wife, Sarah, a pediatric nurse at Suburban Hospital.
