When it comes to things to do each week, there’s no place quite like Montgomery County. The region is a hub for activities of all sorts, from art exhibits and theater to craft fairs, food festivals, and inventive workshops. Yet with all the happenings across the area, it can be a challenge to figure out exactly which things to do. To get started, below are our top picks for the week, and here is an events calendar for things to do in July and August.
Hank Dietle’s Tavern, 11010 Rockville Pike, Rockville

The Nashville-based singer will perform her blend of Americana, roots rock and alt-country. She is known for telling stories through her songs and using such traditional instruments as acoustic guitars, upright pianos and organs. During the concert, she will primary perform songs from her most recent album, Unhinged, which was released in January.

Waredace Brewing Company, 4017 Damascus Road, Laytonsville
Courtney Cohen, who runs Spore and Seed, a sustainable flower and mushroom farm in Baltimore County is hosting a cut flower arranging class. She will teach color theory, basic design principles and working with seasonal flowers. Ticket includes flowers and a beer.

The Family Room, 6820 Olney Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville
Attendees can support young entrepreneurs by purchasing handmade arts, crafts, jewelry, baked goods, painted artwork and more. There will also be live music from local young artists, hot dogs, classic cars, a free craft and ice cream. Admission is free, prices for products vary.
8:30 p.m.
Bethesda Theater, 7719 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda
The 1970s soul and R&B group takes the stage to perform songs including their hits, “Car Wash,” “I Wanna Get Next To You,” and “I’m Going Down.”
Saturday: National Carousel Day
Noon – 3 p.m.
Rio Lakefront, 9841 Washingtonian Blvd., Gaithersburg
In honor of National Carousel Day, the Rio Lakefront will host an outdoor celebration with carousel rides, giant lawn games, giveaways, food, gelato pops and a photo booth. The event is free to attend, while carousel rides, food and some activities require a purchase.
7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
The Puppet Co. Playhouse, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo
The Puppet Co., is hosting adults only, short-form puppetry skits. The show will feature a mix of veteran and beginner puppeteers. There will be a cash bar available serving beer, wine, cider and non-alcoholic drinks. Snacks will also be available.

Saturday Through Aug.7: Bethesda Outdoor Movies
8:45 p.m.
The county parking lot behind the Women’s Farm Market, 4650 Williow Lane
Bethesda Urban Partnership hosts summer movie nights with “Ocean’s 8” screened on Saturday, “La La Land” on July 31 and “Bring It On” On Aug. 7. Admission is free. Some lawn chairs will be provided, but seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own.
4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
The Cordell, Cordell Ave., Bethesda
The DMV Summertide networking event will feature fashion businesses, including luxury swimwear, resort wear and water sports brands. The event will include a fashion show, food music and live vendors. Former Olympic swimmer and medalist, Martiza Correia, the first black woman to make a U.S. Olympic swimming team, will be the guest speaker.
