Earth Day may officially be April 22, but there will be plenty of ways to honor the planet this month. Whether you want to get outside, make crafts or learn about science, there’s something for everyone to do this April. Check out the roundup below:

Montgomery Parks is hosting community cleanups at parks around the county, including Buck Branch Stream Valley Park and Rock Creek Stream Valley Park on Saturday, McKnew Local Park on Sunday, Black Hill Discovery Center on April 22, Northwest Branch Stream Valley Park on April 25 and Fairland Recreational Park on April 26.
April 18: Share Fair
10 a.m. – noon

Combine your spring cleaning with Earth Day activities at Montgomery Parks’ Share Fair. Bring items to give away trunk-or-treat style and browse the “shops” of others. Givers should register while shoppers need not. It is free for all.
April 18: Hooray Earth!: STEM at Germantown Library
2 – 3 p.m.
Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd., Germantown
Elementary-aged children can learn about climate, weather and the environments of living things, as well as what we can do to protect the Earth. It is free to attend with tickets available at the children’s desk before the program begins.

Contests & Events
Learn about owls and their contributions to the ecosystem during this demonstration on the raptor deck at the Meadowside Nature Center. Then, like an owl, you can contribute to the ecosystem by taking home a seed bomb to distribute in your yard for pollinators. All ages are welcome, and tickets cost $7.
April 23: Be a Waste Hero
6 – 7 p.m.
Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd., Germantown
Montgomery College environmental science professor Kiersten Newtoff visits the Germantown Library to discuss types of trash, recycling, how to discard hazardous waste and more. The free event is recommended for teens and adults.
April 25: City Nature Challenge
9 – 10 a.m.
Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Road, Rockville
The City Nature Challenge encourages everyone age 6 and older to observe and document local wildlife while on a guided tour with Croydon Creek Nature Center staff. It is free to attend.

April 25: BetterPlanet4Kids 2026 Earth Day Park Clean up
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Rock Creek Regional Park, 15700 Needwood Lake Circle, Rockville
Participants age 10 and older can earn service-learning hours while helping to clean up Rock Creek Regional Park. Participation is free.
April 25: Montgomery County Green Fest
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown
In its 11th year as a festival, Green Fest is celebrating Montgomery County’s 250th anniversary by encouraging residents to sign a pledge to commit 250 environmentally friendly actions. The festival will have family-friendly activities and more to be announced.
April 25: Earth Day Civics 101 Discussion
Noon – 1 p.m.
20611 Prathertown Road, Gaithersburg
Montgomery County Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, Commissioner and Chair of the Montgomery County Commission for Women Sheena Foster and Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commissioner Saundra Prather will join community members to discuss civics. The event is free and lunch is included.
April 25: Long Branch Earth Day
Noon – 3 p.m.
Flower Avenue Urban Park, 8746 Flower Ave., Silver Spring
Celebrate Earth Day at Long Branch with public library activities, a plant scavenger hunt and a lesson on repotting plants. It is free to attend with food and drink available for purchase from neighboring restaurants.
April 26: Earth Day at Brookside Gardens
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton
This family-friendly Earth Day celebration explores sustainability with crafts, yoga, plantings, live performances and educational tables. It is free to attend with registration encouraged. Picnicking is allowed during the event.
