When it comes to things to do each week, there’s no place quite like Montgomery County. The region is a hub for activities of all sorts, from art exhibits and theater to craft fairs, food festivals, and inventive workshops. Yet with all the happenings across the area, it can be a challenge to figure out exactly which things to do. To get started, below are our top picks for the week, and here is an events calendar for things to do in August.

Montgomery County communities will host “National Night Out” events featuring opportunities to meet local police officers, first responders and neighbors. The annual event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood connections through activities such as live music, carnival games, emergency vehicle tours, food, face painting, balloon animals and other family-friendly activities. Wednesday: Oysters & Sparkling Festival

Celebrate National Oyster Day at Windridge Vineyards with an evening of oysters, seafood and sparkling wine. The festival will feature oyster and seafood tasting stations, including fresh oyster, grilled oysters, shrimp rolls and tuna, paired with sparkling wines.
Tickets: $95 for 12 food tastings and two glasses of sparkling wine.
Wednesday-Aug. 19: Live from the Lawn
7:30 p.m.
Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda
Strathmore’s annual free summer concert series continues with a blues, soul and jazz musical performance by Shayna Steele. Guests are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of live music on the lawn. Food will be available for purchase or attendees can bring their own.
Thursday: Pasture Walk at Plow and Stars Farm
5-8 p.m.
Plow and Stars Farm, 14010 Montevideo Road, Poolesville
Join University of Maryland Extension, Future Harvest and the Million Acre Challenge for a free educational tour of Plow and Stars Farm. Visitors can learn how the farm raises grass-fed lamb and poultry while using sustainable farming methods. The event will include discussions about grazing practices, soil health, regenerative agriculture and how farmers can improve the land they work on.
Registration is required. Attendance is free.
8- 10 p.m.
Montrose Park, 451 Congressional Lane, Rockville
Rockville’s free Movies in the Parks series continues with “Goat” at Montrose Park. The series features a different movie at a different Rockville park every Thursday through Aug. 20. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets, food and nonalcohol beverages. All movies are rated G or PG. In the event of inclement weather, films will be shown at the Rockville Senior Center.
Friday: Bethesda Outdoor Movies

The county parking lot behind the Women’s Farm Market, 4650 Willow Lane
Bethesda Urban Partnership’s summer movie nights wrap up with a screening of “Bring It On.”Some lawn chairs will be provided, but seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Admission is free.
Friday: The Kensington Historical Society Concert Series
10-11 a.m.
Howard Avenue Park, 3709 Howard Ave., Kensington
The Kensington Historical Society’s free summer concert series continues with a performance by Dede & the Do-Rights, a vintage country and rock group. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket.
Friday-Sunday: CatVideoFest 2026
Friday: 11:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.; Saturday: 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., Sunday: 1:15 p.m.
AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring
CatVideoFest 2026 brings together a collection of cat videos from around the world, featuring submissions, animations, music videos and classic internet favorites. A portion of ticket proceeds supports local cats in need through partnerships with animal welfare organizations. The documentary is rated G and runs for 75 minutes.
Tickets: $14; $11 for seniors, students and military; Matinees: $10, $8 for children.
Saturday: A Midsummer’s Night Dream
7:30 p.m.
BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown
The Rustic mechanicals, a West Virginia Shakespeare troupe, brings the Bard’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the stage. The group strives to make Shakespeare’s plays accessible to modern audiences.
Tickets: $10-$36.
11:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Road, Olney
Olney Theatre Center’s annual Summerfest includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Bernard Family Theatre, the new Jim & Carol Trawick Education Center and Gana L. Dunlop Makers’ Center. The free event also features live performances, workshops, behind-the-scenes tours, local vendors and previews of the theater’s upcoming season.
